What Causes Back Pain?
Back pain usually is caused by various types of injuries or the effects of aging. There are basically two types of injury: traumatic- such as a car accident, slip and fall, or a sports injury. The other, more common type is due to repetitive stress associated with work duties- prolonged sitting, standing, lifting, bending, twisting, etc. The effect of such forces on the spine creates wear and tear on the discs, ligaments and muscles. These discs act as shock absorbers to protect the vertebrae and spinal cord.
Many of the problems that cause back pain are the result of disc degeneration. Such degeneration results in bulging or herniation that presses on surrounding nerves, causing pain or numbness.
Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression can treat many causes of back pain. At Portland Spine & Rehab Center, we specialize in Portland Spinal Decompression Therapy.
